The THEA 220MP is a large-format quadcopter rated for a 40 kg payload. Where the coaxial octocopters in our range add rotors for redundancy and thrust density, the 220MP takes the simpler route: four large rotors on four arms. The result is an efficient, easy-to-maintain heavy lifter for operators who want serious capacity without the complexity of eight motors.

Quadcopter versus octocopter for heavy lift

Every multirotor layout is a trade-off:

  • Quadcopters such as the 220MP use the fewest motors and the largest propellers for a given size. Large propellers are aerodynamically efficient, and fewer components mean lower maintenance cost and simpler inspection. The trade-off is redundancy: losing a motor on a quadcopter is far more serious than on a coaxial octocopter.
  • Coaxial octocopters such as the THEA 190MP and THEA 200MP carry more motors, adding margin and thrust in a compact frame at higher cost and complexity.

For operations over unpopulated areas with a disciplined maintenance routine, the quadcopter's simplicity is often the better economic choice. Over people, infrastructure or water, many operators prefer the redundancy of more motors, and your regulator may expect it.

What 40 kg covers

Forty kilograms covers a large share of real-world heavy-lift jobs: power tools and generators, bags of materials, cable reels, relief supplies and agricultural inputs. If most of your loads fall in the 10 to 35 kg range, the 220MP gives comfortable headroom without paying for a 70 kg aircraft.

Maintenance advantages

With four motors, four ESCs and four propellers, pre-flight checks are quicker and spares stock is smaller. For operators running several aircraft, that saving adds up across a fleet. We supply a recommended spares kit with each aircraft.

Regulatory note

At this payload, the 220MP is a professional aircraft requiring registration, qualified pilots and in most countries a specific operational approval. See our resources page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the payload of the THEA 220MP?

It is rated for a maximum payload of 40 kg.

Why choose a quadcopter instead of an octocopter?

Quadcopters are simpler, more efficient for their size and cheaper to maintain. Octocopters add motor redundancy and thrust. The right choice depends on your mission risk and maintenance capability.

What is the flight time?

Flight time depends heavily on payload and conditions. We confirm current manufacturer figures and realistic estimates for your load in the quote.

Can it fly over people?

Rules on flying over people are strict and vary by country. Most authorities restrict heavy-lift flights over uninvolved people. Check with your regulator.
