What is a heavy lift drone?
A heavy lift drone is built to carry loads measured in tens of kilograms, not grams. In our range, that means aircraft rated for 40 to 70 kg of payload, enough for generators, cable reels, construction materials, bulk relief supplies and heavy sensor packages.

Choosing a heavy lift drone
By payload
- 70 kg: THEA 200MP coaxial octocopter
- 50 kg: P50 (cargo, firefighting, rescue), D50 (10 km, 5000 m), THEA 190MP (coaxial, short shuttles)
- 40 kg: THEA 220MP quadcopter
- 55 kg MTOW: GAIA 190MP (payload depends on battery configuration)
Choose a platform whose rated payload comfortably exceeds your typical load. Flying near maximum all the time shortens flight time and battery life and reduces safety margin.
By airframe layout
- Coaxial octocopter (THEA 190MP/200MP): eight motors in four stacked pairs. High thrust in a compact frame, with redundancy.
- Quadcopter (THEA 220MP): four large rotors. Efficient and simple, with less redundancy.
- Large-frame multirotor (GAIA 190MP): a 1925 mm wheelbase gives a stable platform for heavy sensors and cargo.
By mission profile
- Short, repeated shuttles: THEA 190MP
- Long distance or high altitude: D50
- Maximum load: THEA 200MP
- Mixed cargo and rescue roles: P50 (watch its flight video on the product page)
Where heavy lift drones pay off
- Construction: lifting materials onto roofs, slopes and towers. See construction and surveying.
- Utilities: stringing pilot lines and lifting hardware to pylons. See energy and utilities.
- Mining: moving parts across pits and remote sites. See mining.
- Logistics: resupplying mountain, island and remote stations. See logistics and delivery.
- Emergency response: delivering supplies when roads are cut. See public safety.

Operating heavy lift drones safely and legally
- Approvals: expect operator registration, qualified pilots and a specific operational authorisation. In the US, aircraft of 55 lb and over need an exemption beyond Part 107. In the EU and UK, the open category ends at 25 kg MTOW.
- Crew: at least a pilot and an observer or payload handler.
- Ground risk: keep people clear of the flight path and the drop zone.
- Weather: respect wind limits, especially with suspended loads.
- Batteries: heavy-lift packs are large, so plan safe charging, storage and transport.
- Maintenance: inspect motors, propellers, arms and payload interfaces before every flight.
